cd changer
I just bought a CD Changer for my 2000 E320. I plug it in with the car's pre-wirings, a 3 pin plug and another with 2 little bulbs. Pushed the CD button on the radio & "NO CD CHANGER" message appears. I know there is power because I can eject the cartridge using the eject button. Anybody knows if there is code to punch in or anything to do besides just plugging it in? Any help will be greatly appreciated.By the way it is an OEM cd changer.[/align]

RE: cd changer
important: if you have onboard cellular phone, that too, runs
in the D2B fiber optic system and may take a bit more juggling.
i dont have this to worry about so I didn't care to read up on
how it works. basically, the FO harness must run in one continuous
look.....out of the head unit....to the phone....to the changer....back
to HU.
if no phone connected (ever), then it may be an easier fix...try these
suggestions to see if any of them work (these are individual suggestions,
not sequential).....
- press and hold CD button for 30 secs (someone said this but i've not verified)
- pull fuse from radio for few mins and replace
- pull fuse from fuse box for radio ...
- pull changer and leave overnight (someone reported that this worked for them)
- pull negative cable from battery for 30 mins (but be clear you may need to reset
your memory for seat, mirrors, roof.... plus, it may set off error msgs depending on
your year/model) last resort
- bring in to dealer

RE: cd changer
yikes!....i forgot one important thing...the car could blow up!
nah, jest kidding....seriously, be sure you have RADIO CODE handy
to use when powering back up. it's a 4-5 digit code used to bypass
the security lockout each time power is interrupted to the head unit.

RE: cd changer
I did try connecting it last night. When I couldn't make it work, I pulled it out. I tried again tonight & it worked. But another problem. Itplays all the CD's in the magazine, but the sound is very awful & full of statics. Any suggestion??

RE: cd changer
no, i dont have any suggestions but to try vendors below who specialize
in MB OEM changer repair. i tired of stopping and going into the trunk
so I changed the head unit to Audio 10 model which has a single CD
slot in place of the audiocassette...and it still works with factory changer.
i've not encountered any with noticeable static. since it is digital/fiber,
i'm not sure how this would be introduced, ie whether it's from the
source (CD), bad laser (try cleaning), or head unit.
systematic trial/error would be to have you try other CDs. next, place
changer in buddy's MB to see if static migrates to his car, if so, then
it's the changer. if no static, then possibly head unit (?)
