Default Cat converter E240 W210

Just got told by my dealer that the annoying rattle from my exhaust was due to the Catalytic converter needing replacement (44,000km - 26,000Ml).

Cost to replace is Australian$3400 plus fitting!!!! (USD2,550).

I have been quoted less than $500 to fit a universal non-genuine converter.

Has anyone had any problems with the non genuine converters?

I can go for the bigger hi-flow converter with 3.5 inch fittings. Any suggestions on these also?

Converter still required by law, but the fine of $2,500 seems reasonable compared to the genuine product.
