Default Can not shift out of Park position

It has happened 2 times in 2 days. All of a sudden, after a park, engine off, and then restarted the car, I could not shift out of Park position. I had to stop and start the car many times and then all of a sudden it would work.

What is wrong and how to fix this? Any input or idea is appreciated. Thanks a bunch.[:@]

Do you need to have your foot on the brake? Is that it?
In my Camry there is a small rubber plug next to the shifter and when the foot on brake sensor malfunctions you remove the plug and insert small screwdriver and push to override sensor to not be stranded.

Haven't had this problem on my E320 but, on other types of vehicles, could be either a brake light switch located near the brake pedal, or the brake low pressure switch, located on the master cylinder. Check to see if your cruise control works.
