okay, this is what you would do.
remove the a/c control unit and check for the part number first.
part number A210 830 85 85 and later means it's modified version and no known problem as what you got.
if in doubt, post here and i'll check.
then... look for the batch. as of Q33, it means that it is new and modified version also. lower than Q33 means it is faulty which it cannot be switched off even if the ignition key was removed... and it also discharges the battery.
don't just replace it with a new one without confirming first.

Hi,
I had a look for the screws to remove the cover but I dont seem to be able to see. Do I remove the cassete player 1st? But the cassette player have 2 slit on left & right side. I understand that it need special tool to remove?

These tools are available from MB. Also found on Ebay.
Get 2 hacksaw blades, wiggle one in each side and try to pull radio out. Wont hurt to try.
BUT no need to remove unless you can try another part to help fault find.
Also some Ozzie MBs use a clarion radio (badged Merceded) that has a pair of round holes on each side.
To remove these just insert 4 2" nails and pull out.
The same part for an SLK 98 used to cost $1100. Now costs $3400 Oz dollars. Rip Off.
In USA a forum poster on another site said the unit costs about $650 US dollars.
Part number changed 4 times over 6 years!! Current Part number 170-830-3185
I got one 2nd hand on its way from http://www.mbpartsonline.com/recycled.html for $200 Oz dollars.
AFAIK the units are identical apart from the color of the rings around the dials.......
So be prepared to pay a LOT of Ozzie dollars.
