To buy, not to buy? W124 1993 E280 wagon
I'm looking at a 1993 E280 estate (W124, 24v engine) which is very cheap although has a few issues. Trying to decide whether or not I should take the plunge... Anyone got any advice on this little lot?
- 174k miles
- Rear suspension is very bouncy - recent new shocks, suspect spheres gone, 2nd hand items included with car
- On lifting off following brisk acceleration, there is a "shunt" and a small noise from somewhere near the rear diff - propshaft donut?
- There is a small oil leak from the front of the engine - around the timing chain area?
- The car has automatic climate control - but the blower will not turn on or off - a simple change of blower unit or could it be something more sinister?
- The central locking has a mind of its own
- The battery drains itself after 4 days left standing - even though the alarm has been deactivated
Actually I'm worried that the reason for the last two could be a fatigued wiring loom which I hear is an expensive problem on late W124's?
Any advice gratefully received,
Chris
