My '04 E 320 applies the brakes automatically (to lightly clean itself) - but does so more often than I'd like. The result is much brake dust and an annoyed owner. Is this commonplace for this and other late models?</P>

I'm not sure what the idiots who developed the brake by wire system were thinking. Shorter braking distance? no , more responsive braking? no, higher costs and wear? yes. I am planning on an 05 CDI, can I get regular brakes? You might consider dust shields available at autosport.
