bearing question

I 'm replacing the differential axle shafts on my 81 w123..In the process of removing the seal on one side, I damaged the outer cone roller bearing slightly. The damage is slight but I think it would be wise to replace it. I haven't yet removed the snap ring that holds the bearing in place (I need to get some snap ring pliers) but it looks like the bearing cone should come out easily when I do. I've noticed that the outer cone part of the bearing is sold separately from the bearing race. The race would be difficult to remove so I'm wondering if I could leave the race in place and replace the cone bearing (if the race looks OK). Roller bearings seem much less prone to damaging the race than ball bearings.Looking on line for the bearing I noticed that the part containing the rollers is often sold separately so, is this a good idea? It would undoubtedly be an easier job. The alternative is replacing the whole differential with another one or having a specialist do it in a shop. Obviously, I'd prefer the easier way. Opinions?
