@Curlyhairboy.

That's just about what I would expect if you are talking US gall and driving in a manner whereby you are not trying to eek out the miles.

I have literally just returned from a 400 mile round trip with little wind. 85% on motorway at 75mph. balance 40 mph city traffic. Av speed 67 mph. Consumption of trip computer which is surprisingly accurate. 34.6 MPG Imp = 27.6 MPG US BUT I was driving (minimal accelerating) trying to get max mileage.

So I reiterate. 35MPG IMP (28US) is about as good as it gets and 30 MPG IMP (24 US) is a more typical figure that I get when not trying to make a point in far I can get a tank to go.

Anything over 30US needs to be taken with a pinch of salt IMHO.

Stuart.

Default RE: Avg. MPG

Filled up yesterday... 27.96 MPG in mixed driving. Took a 2 hour trip to Dulles and back a week later. I love the gas mileage on this car. Will be driving to Tenn next month. Looking forward to filling up, driving normally and then coming back... all on the same tank!

A few weeks ago my wife got nervous because my fuel light had been on for a day or so. I got 535 miles out of the tank before I pulled in out of nervousness. I filled up and expected to put in something like 20.5 gals. I was shocked when I could only put in 19 gallons. These cars are built to keep you on the road for the longest period of time.

Enjoy your Es!

I have a 1998 E320 with 160,000 and the original sparkplugs in it! Just made a round trip to Nashville and back, mostly 80 mph on the interstate. After 546 miles the reserve light came on, which should have left close to three gallons. When I fueled up again at the same pump and the same spot, it took 18.76 gallons to fill her up. I had driven 563.4 miles! This comes out to a smidgeon over 30 mpg average for the entire trip. In previous years I made a couple of round trips to NY and had the same results. There is no doubt in my mind that your numbers 30-31 mpg for highway driving are correct. I might add also that your best mileage is in spring and fall when we do not have 90 degree temperatures for the A/C to deal with. And my mileage was also based on just myself in the car.
