Default Ash tray removal

My 1995 E320 Cabriolet lighter socket does not get any current. I checked the fuse (location 1) and that is okay. I need to remove the ashtray to get to the lighter's wiring. I've removed the ashtray insert, but that's as far as I can figure out, without having to take the console off. I've seen pics of another year's model where they show a screw that you get to with a 90 degree screw driver, but that is not the set-up in my car. There are two screws deep in the ashtray. They are exposed when you open the ashtray. I've removed these, but it still won't come out. This sounds like a minor problem, but I can't use GPS or recharge my cellphone on long trips. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
