Does the dealer really have to do the alignment on this car or is he lying?

Are you asking if only the dealer can perform the alignment? If so, that is false. The camber and castor are adjusted using bolt kits to compensate rather than a eccentric bolt. So, you will need parts from the dealer possibly but most any machine is compatible.
