Advice on a 1997 E320.
I just purchased a w210 chassis E320 and figured this would be the best place to learn about it. I have already learned about the rear window actuator problem. I also ordered a couple of O2 sensors, up and downstream. They were throwing a couple of codes.
The car needs a new dash. I don't want to spend $1700 at the dealer if I can avoid it... Are there other places to get Mercedes parts for a little less?
Also, can anybody give me an idea of what else can be problematic on the w210s? If it helps geographically, I'm in Tulsa.

Well... I replaced the DRL lights and one fog lamp, flushed the engine and added new oil, unplugged the wiper fluid nozzles, and got the radio code.
More to be changed on Tuesday, including the O2 sensors.

Congratulations. You have purchased the best of the best ever E class 6 cylinder ride. You have the last of the in-line 6 and the best. You also have the first year of the 5 speed electronically controlled automatic transmission.
Have a trusted shop use BG synthetic trans flush service. It works fine in your transmission.
Use only a genuine Benz air filter to protect the air meter.
Check to make sure that both the fans in front of the condenser coil are still joined together by their belt. You can only find the belt at a Benz dealer.
If you find the turn signal stalk moves/loose. Leave the key out of the ignition and remove the airbag and steering wheel (no puller required). Remove the cover/s. Then tighten the screw that secures the turn signal switch to the column. Then put the wheel back on and put the airbag back on. Not a difficult repair. The airbag connectors have a black piece in their center that has to be raised to unplug the connectors, use a pick and after you reattach them, snap the black piece down. do not remove the black piece.
You already know about the back window regulators.
Keep an eye on the condition of the front spring perches for rust.
That's all.
Enjoy your ride. I have the exact same car.......best ever.

front coil spring tops break off the body of the car. seen about 20 of them in 9 years. the top holds the coil spring in place and threw time and rust it breaks off from the body welds.
tail light issues too. bad design
fog light harness issues...bad grounds.
transmission fluid works its way into the trans control unit.
these are just a few.
a good car overall though if well maintained.

My 1995 E300 D just lost the front left coil spring top support due to rust. I have read this is a common problem, so what is the best way to fix it? Can I buy a new metal bracket or am I limited to what I can find in junk yard?
Also, what is the typical price range for this type of fix? My car has just 158,000 miles so it still going strong, but are there other rust demons I need to look for in the car?
Thanks

This is the issue.

I am in Detroit, this problem happens to all W210 chassis here "eventually".
Mercedes Benz changed the repair procedure to use aircraft rivets.
The only issue I have with their revised procedure is the required rivet gun is $3500.00 USD last time I checked.
Personal experience: A good weld lasts roughly ten years in the extreme Michigan salt environment, sadly most cars don't survive long enough to require this repair a second time.
