Default 98 E320 Wagon 4Matic Stalling

A few weeks ago, i flicked the key to start it. and it just kept cranking. Tried it 2 more times, same result. Waited like 10 minutes, was fine. It happened a few more times, and today the car just stalled out while driving.

Research has led me to believe that this may be a faulty crankshaft position sensor. Is this a common problem? How long does it usually take to fix if it needs replacement? Last thing i want is the Greenwich, CT dealer to say "yeaaa we're gonna need to do a rebuild....", or "we need to replace the sensor. It costs $200 and takes 3 hours to do. give us your money."
