'98 E320 failing to start for 15-30min! Help urgently needed please!
Hi Guys
I'm new to this forum, really in need of some expert advice! My 1998 E320 fails to start about once in every three attempts. It seems to be completely random, as sometimes it will start up no problem - other times it won't start at all. I have to leave it 15-30mins and try again and then it starts. It always eventually starts after 30min max, but it seems to be hapenning at least 2/3 times a week. Have taken it to Mercedes in Manchester, they had it for a week but said they could not see any problems as it started up every time - and that they couldn't help as they needed to see it when it was not starting. Seems to happen after a bit of a drive, when it is parked up for an hour or more. Engine sounds like it is trying to start but doesn't fire up. Would really appreciate any ideas guys. Getting desperate here! End up getting stuck in Tesco's car parks etc!
Thanks

I third the notion.
The "crank shaft position sensor" is in the back of the engine block; follow the wire. Try to take it with you to the parts store, since there are more than one type. Its not too expensive. It takes about ten minutes to replace.

Well, i spent one hour just trying to figure out what type of bolt was used to bolt the sensor down. No luck. It was not the Allen driver. I think it was just regular hexagon bolt. Any help would greatly appreciated.
Robert, thanks for the help earlier. But i am not out of the bush yet.

Star 6 point T-27. Make sure engine is cold. Easy job. Do-not over tighten or drop the the sensor. Sensor should cost not more than 90$ that includes shipping. Good luck
