Default '98 E230 wagon--electrical gremlins

I changed a couple bulbs (headlamp and brake light) w/ off-the-shelf AutoZone
equivalents. Now I keep getting 'lamp defective' msg whenever I touch the
brakes, tho all brake lights are lit. And the cruise control does not work when
the headlamps are on. What gives?

Cheers,
Richard

first off could be the wrong bulb. or wattage, or also Benzes dont like the bulbs that are copper at the bottom of them get silver. also check the pins on the bulbs to make sure they are the same. as far as your criuse control goes with the lights on?? never heard that before. shouldnt be related in any way unless you have some sort of electrical problem

Default 98 E320 brake light probs

Richard,
Did you ever get this sorted out? I have been having the same problem, but only with the driver's side brake light. It works, then doesn't work. I've replaced the bulb several times and it never lasts. The bulbs don't burn out, by the way....they just stop working. My brother took a peek at it and stuck his hand up by the brake pedal and, voila, it went on. Several days later it went off again.

Jimijames,
