Default 95 E320 Wagon Hatch Strut

My wagon is in dire need of the hatch strut replacement...the hatch has caused near knockout episodes!!! Has anyone replaced one of these. I have the Mercedes manuals but they make no reference to the hatch strut. I see some entry point to get in but would like some guidance.

Thanks!!!

B

They are actually not hard to replace, except for having to remove the rear portion plastic of the liner. Be sure to support the door in the open position very well, otherwise it can come crashing down on you. The change is easy,, but it takes 45 mins to get to the pressurized struts.

Having strut in your vehicle, the wheels will be able to independently adjust to the road conditions.
The strut is usually installed in the front wheels of an automobile while the rear portion has the leaf spring suspension. And one advantage of having strut is the ability to manage the movements of springs and reduceunnecessarymotion in your vehicle. The Mercedes strut has the same condition on giving ride comfort.

I believe he is refering to the struts that suport the rear door of the trunk(I have had the same problem on my Volvo) of a Wagon not the suspension. Also the rear suspension of the W124 E class has been IRS multi link since I believe 1986 as Mercedes Benz created over 30 different variations before deciding on the one for theproduction model. The rear suspension for the 95' was a self leveling system not found on the sedan version minus the amazing 500E. Ifyou were interested.
