Default 95 E 320 EGR Problem

Hi I have a 95 E320 wagon with 175,000 miles. My check engine light keeps comming on with a code 5 I reset and it stays off around town but when i go on the highway for a trip it comes on the first time i stop like for fuel. My Mechanic says the tube needs to be cleaned out. The cd manual is pretty inadaquate on this area can anyone help with a procedure for removing this tube so i can clean it out.
Also I have tried to trouble shoot this and on the front of the engine here is a vacuum selenoid which appears to control the opening of the egr valve. When i hook up my vacuum tester to the vacuum lines going to the valve it will not hold vacuum is this normal?

Thanks

if your egr got problem, the engine shakes at idle and got poor performance.

here's an egr diagram to give you idea on how to remove that pipe.

Thanks for the information the diagram helps. The EGR valve seems to operate ok. I just dont think the tube is providing any flow back to the Intake manifold. It runs fine and idles smooth.
