Hi all, am new to this forum and need help. My trunk lid will not open. all doors and gas cap lock work properly. am able to lock/unlock pneumatic system using either front doors or the trunk key hole. it is almost as if the trunk keying mechanism is in the "trunk always locked position" ie. #4 position (90 deg clockwise from vertical). any idea on how to solve this problem. had absolutely no problems prior to this malfunction. just decided not to open yesterday. Any help is appreciated. thanks for trying. aloha, byron

 

I had a '94 E320 which caused me the same grief just as I wasabout to put my luggage in the trunk for a trip. What I found (and I'm no mechanic) was that by opening a small "hatch" just to the right of the inside trunk locking mechanism, I could disconnect the vacuum line to the lock; I could then lock/unlock the trunk with the car key---no more problem. hi mate i once had same problem with my e-class, check the fuse, thats what i did, even if its not blown it may be loose

have a buddy carefully put their body weight on the trunk....pushing down in spurts.....while you manipulate the mechanical key/lock. the goal is to jog the latch and buy it some clearance. if this works, you then may want to follow up and readjust the latch and/or strike plate - a relatively simply task.
