92 300CE stalls when accelerating
Hello everyone.
My 92 300CE was running a bit rough. I accelerated into traffic and it stalled.
Now when I start it, it idles fine but when I accelerate it stalls.
I can get to 2500, sometimes up to 4000, RPMs and it coughs and shuts down.
It then must sit for 10 minutes or so before it will start.
I thought it was the Crank Position Sensor or fuel filter.
Replaced both with no change in symptoms.
Thanks for your help,
Barry

RE: 92 300CE stalls when accelerating
Barry,
My 1999 E320 acted similarly.
Be sure your battery does not need replacing. If the voltage drops too low, the computer tells you car to shut down.
I had to replace my Oxygen sensor and my battery before the problem was solved.
Hope this helps.

You need to test the cat,you have thrown all the usual suspects at it and no improvement,if it runs fine and then under hard acceleration drops off, classic symptoms of a partially blocked cat:stalls, cools a bit and restarts, only to repeat under hard accel.A totally blocked cat and it might not run at all or run and stall .Test the cat............

RE: 92 300CE stalls when accelerating
It appears a new coil, wires, plugs, and rotor fixed the shutting down problem.
I am left, however, with my original problem.
While accelerating under load it hesitates, sometimes to the extent that I can't pull into traffic.
It will bog down and just "putt-putt".
Items replaced to date:
Crank Position Sensor
Fuel Filter
O2 sensor
coil
plugs
wires
rotor
Battery
Tested vacuum. sits around 20 inches, drops and comes back pretty quick when accelerating.
Thanks
Barry
