300e stalls when hot
I've got an 88 300e and it's been starting and running fine. I did replace the EHA Valve about 6 months ago. The last couple of weeks, it stalls when it heats up and you come to a stop, usually after about five minutes and you can't restart it. If it sits for a while and cools off, it starts but immediately on starting the engine races and roars without the foot feed being pressed. This lasts only a second or two, then it idles back and runs normal ... for about another five minutes.
I've checked out the linkage and lubed it ... thought maybe it was getting stuck ... but still the same problem.
Any suggestions? I read in a previous post it could be thermostat or crank sensor. I'll give those a look.
Thanks!

i have had this same problem for a long time. i have replaced numerous parts to no avail. to make a long story short, i loosened the exhaust manifold exhaust pipes to allow the exhaust another route to exit the engine. the car is running great now and proves to me the football shaped catalytic converters are stopped up. i had previously replaced the other cat converter in the main exhaust. hope this helps.
it sounds like a problem with the CIS injection somewhere. when cold, the fuel distributor will allow more fuel, less fuel when warm. eha controls the trim from the 02 sensor. i would check or try and adjust your air flow sensor plate. under the air filter, there should be a gold plate. with the car off, you should be able to lightly press down on the plate and feel about 2mm of play till you feel resistance. also at rest the bottom edge of the plate should be about even with the bottom edge of the narrowest part of the venturi. you can adjust all of these if they are off, but if your car drives great most of the time, you might just have some kind of problem with your auxillary/idle air valve.
