I had something like this happen to my 89 300E when I accidently removed the Becker sterio and knocked off the anti-theft connection at the back of the deck. When the door was opened the horn also sounded intermittently. The system could be reset by inserting the key and starting the car but would be set off by applying the brakes. All I had to do was to reconnect the sterio connection and everything went back to normal. If this is applicable, I would also be concerned if the Becker has been replaced by a more capable unit or if your car has a remote door unlock/starter.
