2007 E350 - Fuel Smell & Worn Balance Shaft Sprocket
Came back to Mercedes in Nov. purchasing a used 2007 E350 with less than 30k miles - out of warranty and no CPO. Right out of the gate - problems with fuel smell when gas tank was full. Dealer first replaced seals on fuel tank and then the fuel senders to address issue. Now the CEL has come on and independent replaced camshaft solenoid adj. and within 1/2 mile of leaving CEL came back on. Now looking into worn sprocket as outlined by Mercedes service bulletin.
I understand this is bad and would appreciate any insight as to how bad. Both on initial cost (will MB cover out of warranty) and on what other damage may have been done w\ metal shavings circulating in the oil. Just not sure what else to expect down the road
Thank you

Have the Car inspected by someone that has a clue, the guy replacing the solenoids does not have one.
Take it to a Benz specialist, depending on how bad it's worn it either needs the Intermediate gear, shaft replaced or if worn minimal a software flash can make up temporarily for it.
Good Luck, Dan The German Man
