Default 2006 E55 AMG Visit Workshop (Battery) Light

Have the "Visit Workshop" battery light on my 2006 E55 AMG.
Rear main battery fully charged. New. Not MB OE.
Voltage across posts in over 12V, car not running and 14V when running (so guess alternator working).
No performance or other noticeable issues... all electrical working.
No codes via ODB II reader.
Recently "discovered" there is also an auxiliary battery in the front.
Fully charged it.
Shows 12.5V output, no change if car is running or not.
And only get 3V from the cables when car rubbing without front battery in (just across the cables).
Does this sound like a faulty regulator on the alternator?
What else could it be?
