also have a problem with BCM (battery control module)--they have to be "flashed" with new software or possibly replaced--and also the battery under the hood is only used for starting the vehicle---bcm is located in the trunk/cargo area next to the battery ****

Perhaps I am mistaken, but I thought the E500 main bat. had a low voltage tap on it and the most replacment batteries don't have this tap. What is the purpose of the tap? "lower voltage"? How can you buy a battery from Cosco and get the correct battery with this extra tap. Our E500 was bought new and this is no add on, but came from the factory this way. Thanks?

500! oh my god. i work at dealership and that sounds high to me. i think the battery might be 200...just a guess but you can install it yourself. under the hood , passenger side, under the windshield, under the black cabin filter housing.

well computer doesnt really point you to the problem, it gives a general idea. depends though. 3 hours to find the problem is what the tech said. if you tell them to check out the problem then they usually charge an hour diagnosis but more than that they should call and tell you they need more diag time. but just to tell them to put in a battery without diag shouldnt be 500. there are many times that i work on a benz and the computer wont tell you anything at all...50 percent of the time.

I purchased a 1998 e320 with 120k on the clock. If the battery is going bad, will it give any warning? Is it necesarry to plug in a back up battery (at the cigarette lighter) before disconecting the main battery? (in the event of putting a new one)
