I am seriously thinking of replacing my 99 C280 with a 98 E300 diesel. For the gas mileage and I understand these were the last of the "high" sulphur cars they sold but will also run on low sulphur diesel. The Mercedes dealer didn't know what kind of mileage the car got. He said "He said I think in the high 30mpg's. What a salesperson???? It has 40K miles, white with the same dark grey interior as my silver C280. The "salesperson" wouldn't give me a price unless I was ready to buy, which I'm wasn't. The car looks like it was well cared for and was service at the dealer that is selling it. I did take a test drive and it rides and handles well and has a bit more front legroom for my very bad back. Anyone have any comments on this model? If so, I would sincerely appreciate any feedback, as I am coming close to making a Yes to buy it decision, if the price is right. Talking about price, what do you think I should pay for the car, without a trade in? As I said it is very clean, no diesel smell or clatter either.

hello, the 1998 and last year 1999 e300 was a great car as a dealership mechanic for 7 yr. these car would need only scheduled maintenance. its a great car the people who own them love them and dont trade them in often. the power it has is unbelieveable the car runs like a gas motor and fast in some cases i heard they get over 600 mi per tank by some customers but i never owned one to say for sure. those cars sell between 19-26k in cal. depending on condition and if it has starmark warranty which is important. if no warrnt. make sure you have car inspected at local dealership for true condition so you know what your getting any reputable co. will allow that you will have to pay the $100 but its cheaper in the long run if the car requires a lot of work .since you dont know the condition it is in . good luck
