Default 1995 E320 Operating Temps?

I just purchased a 1995 E320 with 70K. I've noticed that it appears to run a little warmer than other Mercedes I have owned. Without A/C on and in normal city traffic, the engine runs above 80C and approaches 100C but never nits it. I looks like about 97C. Is this within normal ranges? Any ideas to cool it down?

Try flushing out the cooling system with something like prestone radiator flush. Then fill with a premium grade propylene glycol coolant such as prestone low-tox. be sure to make a mixture of about 75% coolant and 25% distilled water.

If that does not help, you can replace the thermostat as a preventative measure. Beyond that, if the car still runs hot, then that's just how it is. It shouldn't overheat at the temps you described anyway.

did you check the aux fan at the front ?and the radiator little hose make sure is clear.
try to make sure the radiator cap is seal up system.

I have similar problem with my 1997 E430. How can someone check if the 2 aux. fans are working. Do I need to open the hood when the temp is around 100 and see if the fans are working? The temp is between 85 - 100F. I am afraid because I do not want to wait till it goes to the red zone

Yeah you should check those two aux. fans, or their fuses. They should come on once the temp. gauge reads past 85 degs.

Are you sure? 86C seems a little too soon to be turning on the fans. 100C isn't too hot as long as it cools down when the car moves. He's talking about city driving after all. 87C is normal temp for when the car is moving.

Well that is true...I'm talking about at an idle position such as being stuck in traffic and the engine temp rises. But he might be talking about what your saying, in motion.

Am I stupid or what? I am in USA and we use Farenhit not Centrigrade. Am I suppose to read the needdle of the coolant position in C or F. If the needle is at 90; should it be 90C or 90F. If 90C is correct, convertion to F should be 194F.

Well guys i have 1995 E320 station wagon. In my region during the day time the outside temprature is 35 C to 37 C. The engine temprature in the city driving fluctuates in between 85 to 100, which is very normal. I am running this car for the last so many years. Never had any problem. The moment i take the car on higways with the same outside temprature as mentioned above, the engine temprature as shown in the heat gauge drops to 85 C, which is again very normal.

You're stupid. No, just kidding.

The temp gauge is in centigrade. There's no way a car engine will run at 90F, unless it's cold and not yet warmed up.

Quit worrying. Your car is not overheating.
