1991 190e 2.3 no start

1991 190e 2.3 no start
I'm going to document the process of me trying to figure out why my new to me 1991 190e 2.3 doesn't start.
1) spray ether into throttle body and crank RESULT sputtering tells me spark plugs are working.
2) Look behind computers, no OVP ahhh that must be it,,, so I pull an OVP out of my "Spare Relays" box and put it in, no change.
3) OK maybe OVP is bad, lets hook up the fuel pump connector direct to the power source
That's where I'm at right now. but it's quitting time.
