1987 300TD Trunk lights stuck on
I am not sure which class this is so I am going to post this here.
I have a 1987 300TD wagon which is having a rather strange problem. Today my brother locked the car and the car alarm went off after about a minute. He locked the car again and everything seemed ok to him. I came to the car and all of the courtsey lighting in the trunk and back seat is on and wont turn off. I pulled fuse C and they went off. Because I need that fuse for other things such as locks I put it back it...the lights are now off and they come on just fine when I open the doors and turn off when the doors close. OK, it seemed like I fixed it, I came back outside about an hour later and all of the lights are back on again. Since the doors work after pulling the fule for 10 sec and putting it back in, its oviously not the switches for the lights. What is going on and how do I fix this?

It can be fixed:
You need to disconnect the battery for 4 hours to reset things. But, before you do that you
should know your radio reset code. You caneither find it in the owners manual or contact the
MB dealer who can find it for you by putting in your VIN ( Vehicle Identifcation Number)
Let us know of the results

OK, luckly I have a new radio that does not have the security codes enabled. What exactly would disconnecting the battery do? Also, would this have anything to do with the fact that I changed the battery 2 weeks ago because it was going bad? I had to jumpstart the car several times.

Well, we fixed it. It seemed that the insulation on one of the wires had pulled back a little and had grounded the lighting system therefore making it stay on. Luckly I had the wiring diagrams and was able to trace the wires down.
