Default 1986 Drinking Brake Fluid

Help! My 1986 300E 5 Speed is gulping down the brake fluid, yet I don't see any puddles under the car. I had the rear brakes repaired 3 months ago, at which point they said the front looked fine. I have had no indications the brakes need work. However, there have been times when it has been tough to get the car in certain gears. At first I attributed this to the extremely cold weather at the time, but now I wonder if the brake fluid has something to do with it. Any clues?

There is no link between the brake fluid lossand the transmission shifting problem.
Have your brake ststem checked a.s.a.p.
If you have to add brake fluid, it is leaking somewhere.
The car is unsafe to drive.

Thanks, guys...I finally took it to the shop, and they said the master cylinder is leaking, and the brake booster will also need replacement. Their quote was higher than I wanted to spend on the car, so can anyone tell me just how hard it is to change out these parts?
