I was told the engine needed to warm up before shifting in the 90's cars

is there component in the circuitry that would prevent the car from shifting out of 1st.
Cannot drive the car in 1st...

I have a 1991,190E, 2.3 and I don,t have any problem shifting with a cold or a hot engine.You should look for something else. Make sure you have not dropped anything in the slot of the shift ****.

The catalytic converter must warm up before the car will make its first shift. BTW these cars, (90's E), start in second.

Mine just takes a couple minutes to function "normally". If your E series stays in second long after start-up something is not working properly.
