The counter can also be set by any individual.

To do so try this:

1. Turn the electronic key in steering lock to position 2.

2. Within 4 seconds press button 0 twice

3. The preset status for days or distance is displayed. Within 10 seconds turn electronic key in steering lock to position 0

4. Press and hold button 0, while turning electronic key in the steering lock to position 2 again. The preset status for days or distance is displayed once more. Continue to hold button 0 After approz. 10 seconds a signal sounds, and the display shows 10,000 miles (15,000 km) for approx. 10 seconds.

5. Release button 0

Hope this helps

The procedure is already described on this forum.
Important part is, before you start the procedure, the car needs to be in sleep mode.
Close the door and wait till all the lights go off.

Thanks, However, I have tried this many times.. It's in the owner's manual.. This procedure doesn't work.. I've been told that I need to use an OBD scanner or have an authorized service center reset it.. Any other suggestions..

It worked on my 99' E320 for reseting the service meter.
Sometimes the timing is crucial and it takes several tries.
Or maybe the overdue is another story?
