repair/service CD where do i get one???
normally i post in the Sl500 section as i have a 99 sl500 BUT... sleepwalker, all knowing oracle- you have in the past posted replies showing really great diagrams (routing of fiber optic lines for example). I need to know where to get a CD which has similar/identical type information on it for a 2000 430 CLK Cabriolet. As my other posts may show, i prefer to do all work on my vehicle myself (and no bs intented- the help i got in the past on this forum saved me ALOT of problems).
thanks, george

I work on my own as well.
I got my factory cds from 1-800-367-6372, USA. I use them often.
They are extremely technical, and intended for experienced mechanics. You should become familiar with navagating the cd program BEFORE you need to perform a repair. Experience with MB is better. It's not like a DIY Haynes manual.
It has a search feature that is very helpful, Very good drawings, and technical. As always, you will still have to find the problem yourself.
The weakness is in the repair of electrical or fuel related problems, where the MB HHT(Hand Held Diagnostic Tool) or STAR system is used to diagnose the computer. Without these tools you will not be able to perform many of the tests at home.
However, if it really bothers you to have someone else touch your car, you can buy your own HHT and other MB tools. The part numbers for tools and parts are listed in the text.

But I think I understand what Sleepwalker was saying...
The average person would not be able to make sense of the cd, and unless you REALLY want to buy the cds and the HHT, and if your problem is serious enough to need them, it would probably be cheaper and easier to take it to the dealer.
Personally, I'm pretty stubborn. If MB ever makes a car that I cannot repair, I'll stop buying them. I don't mind buying the tools. I like making the car just right, and NO one is as gentle or careful with my equipment as me.

hi All! Allknowing Sleepwalker, it was actually you who replied to a query I put up regading my SL500...i thought I needed to put in new fiber optic lines..which it turns out I didnt. anyway, you posted three beautiful jpegs from i thought a shop/repair CD so i could do it myself, which I can and will and want to as, again I am a former professional mechanic- i will retry to post the pics you posted, which I saved to illustrate what I am looking for...if i can figure out how to do it....these are tan colored on my screen and give the DIY'er everything i could need to basically do anything on my benz.
Blue Silver, thank you too. I am a DIY er, but as you, believe my repairs are better than the dealers mechanics repairs (basically I can fix about anything- my 99' SL is i think the easiest car to ever repair..even easier than the 69 GTO Judge, 69 RivieraGS,and the 71 GS I restored.
is this what i am looking for (and no it is not my ad..lol but true):
http://www.usfreeads.com/321521-cls.html I just want to rip this car apart as I do all my new additions and make it to my own CONFIDENCE level, if you know what i mean. Thanks again everyone, well for saving me a miliion bucks and helping me not lose my mechanic chops! thanks again, George
