Default Options to upgrade the stock MB stereo in clk 500

Just picked up an '04 CLK 500 and while most of the car is pretty nice, the stereo is a POS... It's the MB model
with the 6 disc changer in the glovebox... No base to speak of, treble is average, speakers are pretty lo end...
Is the HK stereo a decent upgrade or not worth the $$ from MB... Would I be better off adding an amp and replacing
the 10 speakers or the entire head unit..? I'm not an audiophile by any means so just wondering what my options are...

..but Steve.....you do appear to be an audiophile- one who bought a used car with the wrong sound system and wrong seats...

Decided to buy aftermarket heated seats kit so resolved that issue... Also found out the options for
upgrading the BOSE system are either leave it alone or gut it completely and start from scratch...

Found a device made by AudioLink http://www.linkmeup.com/products.htm
which supposedly solves the issue of BOSE using .5 - 2 Ohm speakers and not being able to get better sound by simply upgrading the speakers and/or adding a seperate amp and sub... Problem is, I've not found anyone who's used one yet so not sure of the products reputation... I also sent email to BOSE Tech support but no results yet worth reporting...
