Default Low end performance

I just drove my CLK 320 from Sydney to the Gold Coast - 2500km - and was surprised at the lack of performance when left in drive.

It appeared that at some speeds, the gear box would not kick down. When you put your foot down at 100k, it went only from 5th to 4th, and to really get past some people, you had to manully come down to 3rd.

Off the line onto a freeway, it felt that the engine was being not given full fuel, and if you lifted off the throttle a little, it felt like the acceleration increased.

Has anyone else had this feeling?

something's wrong... seems like a restricted air filter or worn out airmass sensor.
