Default gearbox oil leak

i got a gearbox oil leak on a year 2000 x reg CLK 320 elegance tiptronic, any ideas on how expensive this is to fix? it seems alot of mercs over the years seem to have this problem, why do merc keep building crap gearboxes!

I'm not very happy with how complicated the cars have become lately myself, but if you ever get a chance to take some different gearboxes apart, you will see that MB probably builds the finest.

I'm hoping that its simply leaking around the bottom plate: sometimes people don't replace the old seal when they service the tranny; that would be a service issue. If its leaking around the shafts, that's bad news; sometimes the WRONG fluid will dissolve the seals.

Can you determine where it is leaking?

Charles

i got no idea where its leaking from, is difficult to tell. i got to put it in a merc specialist to get it looked at and get a quote. i know it had had some work on the gearbox within the last 10k miles so maybe they didnt reseal it properly.
