If this POS breaks one more time before 100k, I'm going to gut it, and a put a more reliable engine system in it like a Ford 302.
Isn't that pathethic? This company is losing me.

Frustrated? Well ok..yes

I'm going to have the local fuel tested at a lab.

Now my 190 is doing the same thing now....This is crazy.

Is there a home-test for octane?

Sleepwalker, thank you so much!!!

Symptoms:

Engine light- stuck on

trouble codes: P0170-Fuel trim Malfunction Bank1
P0173-Fuel Trim Malfunction Bank2
No other trouble codes....

Car weak at higher rpms
thin layer of dark soot inside exhaust manifolds.

Fuel Pump tested good. 54lbs. and 1.5L per 35s.
Fuel filter replaced with new.
Air filter new
Motor oil new.
fuel regulator set at 3.8 Bars
Vacuum at idle is -16lb.
fuel lines clear
All six injectors- no leaks under full pressure, and proper spray pattern when bench tested.
Cats do not seem to be clogged- they also look clean. I checked them with a vacuum cleaner?

Thanks for your time Sleepwalker.

Is it possible that the cats are depleated of active ingredient, and the after-cat O2 sensors are detecting this... Could I need new cats?

have you been doing all of your own maintenance? i have a few electrical quirks with mine, but no engine problems. i am hoping that if i pony up the cash at the dealer and stay on the recommended maintence schedule the problems will be kept at bay.

Konman,

Yeah, I change the oil.

The car has had no trouble until THIS.

Twenty highly trained people have looked at this car. It has been on the STAR system, and the HHT, and two OBD2 tests, one private shop and one dealer. I'm already over the $4000 dollar mark in outside trouble shooting, and still no solution. I don't mind hopelessly pouring money into this aging car, but not being able to get it fixed is really making me angry. The engine system seems....megalomaniacal rather than world-class or ISO. I took the car back home when the diagnosis turned into $500 quesses.

I'm just saying my Ford Mustang for example, which was supposed to be media blacksheep of quality, never did anything like this. As a matter of fact, its first major repair occurred at 160k miles.

(?)

the self adaptation of the mixture has reach the limit value.

what i suggest is to first reset the adaptation value using star diagnosis computer.
then add 0.5 milliseconds to the correction value to delay the check engine light showing up. that will increase the multiplicative correction factor.
then adjust igniton timing to 93 octane. then adjust injection time to enrich at stage 1. then delete the fault code and road test the car if becomes better.

if still POS...

read the injection time and airmass sensor value. if out of tolerance, replace airmass sensor.

inspect exhaust and kat for any blockage. replace if blocked.

that should fix the problem.

try to see if there's an oil sludge accumulation on the engine oil filler cap from the inside. aging engine might burn oil and damage the KAT/O2 sensor.
