Default CLK verdict?

I am looking to buy a 2nd hand CLK 200 or 230 because they have come down to a reasonable price. The query that i have is that i hear they have lots of ****ly problems with them that can be expensive to fix. For example my friends boss had one and he was taking it in a lot with problems such as the windscreen wipers not working and stuff like that! Is it just a small minority have problems like these or on the whole do you feel that they are just as reliable as Mercs of the past? I currently drive a '94 C220 Diesel. It has over 160 thousand miles on the clock and i dont have any major problems with it, other than the seal on the sunroof is nearly dead, but saying that it doesnt leak all that often either.

I was gonna get an SLK but the insurance company put a stop to that (4k p/a they wanted, being under 25 sucks *****)

any feedback would be great!

Thanks

Ryan

My family owns 2 CLKs, 2000 clk230 and 2001 clk430.
Both cars have problems with the power windows (fixed under warranty), fog lights burned out a few times for the 230, and once for 430.
The cd changer in the 430 is sometimes undetectable, it displays NO CD CHANGER.
For the 230, its basically dead, along with the factory cellular phone (problem caused by the fiber-optic). Mercedes (Taiwan) is asking $120,000 NTD, around $3,750 USD to replace.
The 430 also had a catalystic converter replaced last July (2004).

just make sure that you buy the Mercedes Starmark warranty. It's expensive, but most of the little things will be covered. I have a 2002 CLK 430. I've had some little problems, but it has all been fixed under the warranty. I bought my warranty for 6 years and 100,000 miles.

You see thats the problem i face. In order to but one at an affordable price i would have to buy private therefore i would not be covered by any guarentee ot warranty!

I've been stucked with this problem for over 4 years.
But I think Mercedes would like to knowhow to fix this problems more than we do.
Because this "No CD Changer " is becoming "No Customers" for them.

if you get the "no cd changer" message means the interface on the cd changer itself is faulty.

replacing with a new cd changer solves the problem.
