Default CLK Transmission and Front Bumper

I have a 1999 CLK 430 (Black). I need some repairs done and a part. I need a front bumper for the car. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can get one a decent price. I am also having trouble with my transmission (I think). The car drives fine at first but then jumps when it is going into second. Could this be a smaller problem or do I need a new transmission. This is my first Benz so I am not to familiar with any of thses issues. Any replys on either of these topics would be greatly appreciated.

I also 'hooked' the bottom of the front spoiler on my '01 CLK 430. The dealer is happy to replace it at $1800 and an auto body shop in town will do it for
about $1200. Both estimates indicated it was not repairable and both involved replacing the
front bumper. In reality, the chances of it happening again are pretty high because you don't feel when the bottom edge slips over a cement parking bumper and when you back out, it rips in two places. Since i'm in the south, right now it is held together with duct tape...it is black duct tape same color as the car...i mean i do have some class! Good luck.

I can't vouch for this person, but I have seen them post bumper covers for various vehicles on eBay. I have an Audi A8. The Audi A8 will rip it's bumper covers when pulling over curb stops too. I have seen this guy advertise repaired bumper covers. Check this link out.He had a bumper cover for the CLK 430 just the other day. Hey, you can always ask him if he has one. The price on the bidding is OK.

You may ask youarself, what am I doing on this forum if I drive an Audi. I am in the process of purchasing a 2001 CLK55. I hope this helps.

Greetings all... I just saw this seller on ebay today. he sells reconditioned, primed ,ready to paint units for about $500.00 bucks. A GOOD body shop should be able to paint and install for about $350 to $500 in addition to just buying the bumper. Personally,if it were mine and the original bumper was structurally sound,i would fix it knowing that it was the original bumper that came w/ the car. ?#2 as follows... perform a power flush of the tranny fluid. A POWER FLUSH, NOT a drain and fill!! Before flushing, get a good transmission cleaning agent.(I find justice bros. to be a quality prouduct.) This will help relieve linings of the metal of any dirt buildup. Add a transmission addative(conditioner) when re-filling w/ fluid. My old infinity j-30 @ 100,000 miles slipped too, and after i did the above procedure, the problem went away. Good luck! Brian St.Paul,Mn

Dealer this, Dealer that. A qualified garage,(NOT ONLY mb garage) will have all fittings adaptive for the mb line. These machines are some of the same ones found at the "DEALLLLLLLER", some costing thousands. As far as fluids go, a qualified garage(I repeat..NOT ONLY MB garage) will check fluid specs on their fluid specification software or an annually updated spec book used by ASE trained technicians. For those of you out there who doubt the private or small garages to work on your benz or anything, keep going to the "DEALLLLLLER" then!!

Hold on a minute. The tranny fluid is not synthetic, it's good ole dextron III, that's dextron 3. You can use synthetic in the rear end differential but synthetic transmission fluid is a question mark for compatability. If you find it, and it's hard to find, it will be a racing indication and may react who knows how with your MB tranny.[:-]

I have similar transmission issues with my 99 CLK430, the mercedes dealer did not find anything wrong i.e no codes or fluid level low and that everything was within tolerance then charged me 200.00 to tell me that it would take 4,800 to replace tranny and module. an independent shop that specializes on benz charged me 40.00 to tell me the same. I flushed and replaced the fluid, still does the same thing. a few things i found out when the car is cold in the morning it does not do it until car get to operating temp sugesting that is 1 and 2 gear as the car sarts on secon when cold i been told, also when switching to W for witner tha car also starts on second gear and the slipping is not as pronounce. there were some issues with the first transmission on the 99 model all these i found out on different forums and browsing the net i still have the same issues and no one seems to have an economical solution other than to tell you to replace the tranny and module, by the way when i flushed the tranny the fluid was almost perfect no signs of metal shavings or anything that would indicate an internal failure othe than maybe one of the clutches going bad. if anyones has any suggestions please share thanks.
