transmission question

I have a 99 e55 and have heard that it has an 'adaptive' transmission. Can anyone explain to me how this works ? Is there an electronic control module that solves shifting problems?

The adaptive transmission uses software programming to 'learn' your driving habits. The 'memory' can be re-set. What type of problems are you encountering?</P>
