CLK 240 rpms at 70 mph
Just bought an 05 CLK 240 sedan. Seems it is over reving at 70 mph. Tack reads 3000 rpms. Is this normal? Also, the tran is a 5 speed auto. Has anyone had any experience with a CLK 240 sedan. Thanks

I am new to this forum. I think I have just purchased a strange bird. Can find absolutely no info on it on this forum. It is an 05 CLK240 4 door sedan. From what I have found all CLK 240's are coupes or convertibles. It has a 5 speed AT and 58k miles. I do not know enough about this forum to search out this bird. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, JR

first off..someone could have changed out the badges on the back. there is no such thing as a CLK 4 door. That would be an E class. try manually changing the gears and see if it goes into all 5 gears while shifting up. are you seeing the gear selector in the cluster that tells you what gear your in?

Thanks for responding, I think you are correct about the badge replacement. Checked the carfax for this vehicle and back in 07 it was involved in a minor rear end collision. Mercedes dealer in Columbus Ga. said he could get a C240 badge for me, but don`t know if I can remove the CLK240 badge w/o messing up the paint. Can just leave it like it is but, for people who are familar with Mercedes its a flag that its been hit in the rear.
About the 5 speed, I did as you recommended watching the gears change up to 5 on the cluster by bumping the gear stick each time it changes. Just seems 3000 rpm is excessive at 70 mph. May not be, but have no way of knowing. Thanks again for your expertise. JR
