2000 CLK320 rollbar (automatic or not)?
I recently purchased a 2000 CLK320 convertible. I looked at several examples before finding one in the condition/price range that I was looking for. One of the dealers told me that if the car starts to roll, the rear restraints pop up in under 0.3 seconds, and act as the roll bar. HOWEVER, the owner's manual states that the restraints should be in the fully raised position when carrying passengers in the rear. This would seem to indicate that they do not pop up in a roll situation. There's even a little warning on the rear of the arm-rest to this effect.
Does anyone have a definitive answer on this? If there IS a sensor that trips when the car starts to roll, why did Mercedes add these warnings to the manual?

yes there is a roll over sensor. it is on the control arm and when it hits a certain threshold it will trigger the roll bar.sometimes if you go over railroad tracks to fast it can pop up the roll bar, if you also drive very erratic and put the car into a slide it can pop up the roll bar too. Ive tied to make the roll bar also come up when driving crazy but you really have to push it hard to do it. you should be able to raise and lower the roll bar with the switch above the radio. But it should in a roll over pop up unless there is a problem with the system.
