My 04 was running perfect. No problems with it at all. Always serviced etc. Just crossed 58k miles. Out of blue, while trying to mv forward at light in D, car just acted as if in neutral. No matter what I put it in P R D nothing. Turned car on off a couple times than all good. 200 feet later same thing. A few repeats of this, check engine light comes on. So parked it. Any diagnosis?

 

if thats the 7 speed you probably need a new conductor plate which includes the control unit on those transmissions. but its really hard to say what the problem is

 

Thanks. 04 just five speed. Once car on and gear not working nothing would make it engage. Turn car off then it would work for short time then back out to N. Everything was perfect before. Quick smooth shifts in C or S mode. So I hope some sensor.

 

ok 5 speed. probably the conductor plate or trans fluid working its way into the trans control unit.

 

Well, I found out the problem.. apparently the radiator leaked into the transmission.. so now i need a whole new tranny and radiator.. I just bought the car on May 31....as is.. u think that mf new what was going on? do i have any recourse against him.. MB said it would cost over 4k to fix it..

 

he probably did know of the problem. but people sell cars all the time with problems. from my experience at the dealer. we usually replace the radiator and flush the trans and radiator and that usually takes care of the problem. sometimes the torque converter gets replaced. but ive never replaced a trans for that problem.
