01 SLK 230 stuck in park need help!!

My car is stuck in park and everytime I drive it i have to manually get it out of park. My esp light is on also. What can I do to fix this problem myself??

sounds like it may be the brake pedal switch. controls the brake lights. do you have brake lights are they working?
