Default wheel problem

Can anyone help me I have brand new wheels on my car. the other day I cleaned them with alloy cleaner. They have now gone all patchy and the wax type coating is coming off. Its easy to get off and peels off in strips with my finger nail..... Does anyone know if its a problem ? if not do you know what I can get the rest off with to save the albow grease ???? my wife will kill me if she finds out i did it..... thanks

I'm new to this forum and Mercedes but not new to wheels. The alloy wheels on most modern cars are painted and clear coated. Sounds like the cleaner you used is for bare alloy and may have been to strong for paint. I hope I'm wrong, but I think it's the clear coat you're scratching off with your fingernail. I'd really need to actually see this to give a more accurate opinion. Good luck.
