Hi gang, newbie here. It's always nice to meet people who appreciate the finer things in life!! I just bought my first Mercedes - a 2002 C240. Since this is still uncharted territory for me, I thought I would ask some of you more experienced drivers for some advice. I picked up my "Benz" three days ago, and I LOVE it!!! Prior to ownership of this fine machine I was "Mr. Practical". The car has 69500 miles on it, and the word I have received from a few people is that for a Mercedes that is still pretty new. I know I see a lot of older ones on the road, do you think the current models are still as reliable? Can I expect much life from it? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Haven't you heard? Actually, there was this weird glitch with the '02 C-classes where they would the cylindar heads would rupture and usually catch on fire. It was rumored that about 80% of the US 02 C-class's were affected and the fire always happens at exactly 70,000 miles on the odometer. MB's official word was that they found that a group of angry employees tampered with the electronics because they were denied a raise past the standard salary of $70,000. Some kind of sick freaks. I guess that's why they rigged the motors to die at 70K miles.
Anyway sorry to hear the bad news. Whoever sold you an '02 without telling you that is a scumbag. Cherish every one of the last 600 miles your car will probably get. Hopefully your insurance doesn't have an "MB-C-2002" clause built into it where they won't cover it since it's a known issue (mine does...)
Best of luck!
