Angry TWO Crankshaft Sensors in two months?

Hey Guys. I know much has been said about Crankshaft Sensors on this site and I am going to continue the beating of the dead horse. My Aunt's Manual tranny '99 SLK 230 had the Crankshaft sensor replaced after the car died while driving and wouldnt start. (the usual sequence of events) Fast forward 2 months to today when the car did the exact same thing, shifted into second, died, drifted to the shoulder and had to be towed. My question being, is it possible to have one Crankshaft sensor go bad only to have its relacement go bad as well in less than two months? The car has only been driven 3 times since the initial sensor repair two months ago. Its quickly becoming a very expensive weekend cruiser. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated!

problem could be an oil soaked airmass sensor. not likely the crank sensor...unless you got it offline or aftermarket.. part could be defective...but not likely.
