Transmission whine/leak please help!!
Hello all, I have an problem with my 2000 C230 Kompressor (160,000 miles) and am trying to get an idea of whats going on with it. I will try to be as descriptive as I can so any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. One day after returning from a long trip where it ran perfectly fine I heard a fairly loud "clunk" come from the transmission area while coming to a stop, this was followed by a whining sound but seemed to still shift "ok" when driving home. I did not have any check engine light come on. I then noticed when I returned home that there was blackish tranny fluid dripping from the pan. I have not driven it since as I do not want to risk any further damage. As a side note I have not changed the tranny fluid at all and it may in fact be low. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Mate:
Don't worry... At around 120 Miles these babies like to start leaking out of a switch on the underside of the tranny. You have probable been dripping fluid for about 20, 000 miles... Now that it has dropped below a required threshold, it's starting to malfunction.
So the switch is about $20.00 and an hour’s labour plus tranny fluid.
If this is the case, your tranny is most like in decent repair and will return to proper function after you make the repair...
Be sure to let us know the outcome...
Take care.
