Torque of SPARK PLUGS
HELP ME GUYS,
On all the other cars I ever owned putting in new plugs tightening to hand tight plus 1/4 of a turn to lock.
Would this be the same on a W203 C320?
Plugs will be BOSCH Titanium.
Thanks
BTW Why does this forum lock onto some words and hotling to crapy MAZDA www?? (www.japscrap.com)

RE: Torque of SPARK PLUGS
It's about 1/4 turn if it has a compression washer. I think it's about 1/16 turn if it doesn't. It should say on the plug box.

RE: Torque of SPARK PLUGS
I tighten them down with an old piece of vacumm hose, so not to cross thread them and then us a socket until the hit bottom and then either 1/4 or 1/6 of a turn until I feel the gasket compress. after a while, and using a spark plug socket, you can feel when the compression takes place. I also put a dab of anti sieze compoung on the threads, just a small dab as it goes a long way. You save a lot of hearache the next time I you change them. Aluminium heads and steel threads don't like each other, corrosion, sets in. I also use the compound on the tire valves especially if I have metal caps. The valves are brass and any metal will corrode against brass.

I'm a twice daily changer, no extralube required...lol Let me know if you need any EXTRALUBE for yourself
LUGNUT & WIZARD - Guys Thanks for the Info, and hear what you say about the anti sieze*.
I managed the left bank of plugs today, before it started raining.
The most difficult thing I fould was getting access to taking off the HT leads, in the end I used a T25 TORX driver and removed the 3 coil packs on that bank, made life a little easier.
Taking the HT end from the Coil was a challenge (or rather - a real bitch )
As for the anti sieze, I dont think MB had ever done this before, the creaking from the plugs sounded like an old wooden battle ship about to sink!! Anyhow, I used a product thats tried and tested called ZX1 Extralube, its a VHT (high temp for newby readers) red grease, approved for use by the British Army. http://www.team-zx1.co.uk/
I couated the threads, and the compression washer in a thin film, core contact on top of plug, then the coil end, ALL NICE NOW.
I'm doing the other half Sunday morning.
BTW
We just been out to the movies and on the same journey the MPG gas mileage meter was giving a better reading than before, and on idle, the engine was much smoother.
My C320 done almost 120,000 Miles, I've read through the history and can't see if the plugs were ever done before I got the car.
THANKS AGAIN, I'll keep you all posted. [sm=americanasmiley.gif]

You can also line your underwear with anti-seize if you don't change them often. They'll come off easier when you decide to change them... or so I hear.
