Sleepwalker! Quick AC question hopefully the last
Do you know how to reprogram or reset the Climate control unit for a 98 C280? It doesn't have dual climate control. I have read other sites how to do by setting left side to high right side to lo and pressing rest turning the key off... But mine doesn't have dual control so I don't know how to do it. Thanks for all your help so far, I think we are about to knock this problem out and I couldn't do it without ya'll.
Thanks,
FA

RE: Sleepwalker! Quick AC question hopefully the last
Ok so I replaced the evap temp sensor and regulator sensor. I recharged the freon. The EC light stays on still, unless I hold down EC and Rest. After holding them for a few seconds the compressor comes and the AC works fine. The climate screeen flashes 80 and 01. I assume this some stored code. The thing is after turning off the ignition the EC comes back on. I can't figure out how to erase the codes. I pray someone knows how. The only information I have found is for dual climate control units which mine is not. By the way this is a 98 C280. Thanks in advance for any info which will help me.

EC Light on fix
VICTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In another forum I found an old service bulletin that showed how to reset some of the systems, so I am posting this for all future people to see. Again this is a 1998 C280 with single climate control. The EC light stayed on all the time. I replace the evap temp sensor and reg temp sensor, thanks to sleepwalker's help. Then I recharged the system with freon and 46 PAG oil. By the way you must get the compressor to come on to charge the AC if your's won't come on, then hold down EC and Rest until the EC light goes off, the compressor will kick on. After you have recharged everything turn the ignition off. Turn the key back to the second position and turn up the temp to HI and then turn the key off again. Now hold down Rest, and keep holding it while you turn the key to position 2. OOP should flash on the Climate screen. You're done. Now turn the key off and crank. Problem solved, as far as I know anyway. I made sure I posted this because my local Mercedes shop tried to tell me that I couldn't reset it without a several thousand dollar machine, and I didn't have the knowledge to fix everything. Well, I didn't have the knowledge, but I spoke to enough people on the internet to piece everything together. I appreciate everyone's help, and hope this returns the favor. The local Mercedes people wanted $550-$750 to fix the problem. So I greatly hope this helps future Mercedes owners. I know the stress that no AC can cause. By the way the system holds 1.9 pounds of freon. You can most certainly do this yourself, don't be suckered in by the repair jerks.

Congrats! The feeling you get after you solved the problem yourself is priceless.
Though AC is not a big deal, this sort of thing could be buggingly annoying. I had faced many problems like that.
One time, MB dealership in Kansas City told me they cannot reset my 10K Oil Change Service Light (a wrench symbol with overdue miles) EVEN after I changed oil WITH THEM at their service department. They said they were willing to reset it only after I come in for a major service. I said "bull" and I showed them I knew how to reset that with bare hands, not with expensive computer hook ups. It pays to read the MB manual.
On an another note, are you sure your AC system uses Freon? Last time I checked, this particular model has R134, the new gas.

No of course I used 134, I know it's not really freon. Believe me my dad is a transmission specialist, but he was smart enough to buy 200 or so r12 containers and save them he made a killing. It's just habit to say freon.
