is there a way for me to haggle the price down? 159.95 is basically about half of what im being charged and its really unfair if they are doing the same things. can i mention this price to them?

u should have a service booklet in addition to your owners manual. read it closely and u will know exactly what is done on an "A" and on a "B" service. the B svc is almost the same as the A as far as actual work performed, they are supposed to inspect more components.

Something I don't understand is why are you paying anything at all.

I recently bought a 2003 c230k which is still under warranty and all services and maintenance visits are free, including oil changes.

Yours is a 2005 you said?

yeah i have a 2005 c230k. i even got the extended warranty. i just took it in for an oil change and it was about 150 bucks just for that. when i first purchased the car (back in july 04), i asked the dealer about free oil changes and they told me that they do not do that anymore at mb because you only need it once a year. they wanted me to get my service a done also at the time, but i opted to hold out a bit longer as 350 seemed a bit outrageous. let me ask you guys something, has mercedes always done this once a year oil change thing? or is it new to the 05 models? and again, the rep at mb told me the service A was mandatory, i really dont want to pay 350 for this, is there any way to lower the cost?

Default service A required?

The complimentary maintenance is no longer offered on the 2005 models. The 2004 model was the last year MB offered free yearly maintenance serive. To answer your other question, yes, you only need to replace the oil once every 12k miles. I got my 2005 C230K Sedan last August but I only have 2,400 miles on it and I am not looking forward to paying a $150-$300 for Service A. I am looking for alternate MB service centers in my town, other than the dealer.

Starting this (2005) model year, there are only "Service Welcome" (between 1,000-3,000miles), and first tire-rotation (6,500 miles or less). These are the only two services provided at no-cost to the owner.

You can have your car serviced at anywhere you want, Mercedes can't void your warranty for that. Just remember to use synthetic oil
