Default RE: saving gas?

Some good tips there, but if your Honda Civic is losing 6 mpg on the highway by turning the A/C on, something is wrong with the car. My friend has this car and it means more like 1 mpg with the thing blasting away.
That is absolute BS. Also, washing the car as a mileage saving tip is marginal at best. Using higher octane gas than necessary does not mean better mileage. Octane requirement is dependent on compression ratio and using higher octane than the car is designed for is like flushing your money down the toilet. People waste more money doing this than anything else gas related. Another myth: higher octane gas has a better "detergent" that the lower octanes don't, so your engine runs cleaner. More BS. And, my Mercedes easily gets the EPA mileage that was advertised on the sticker when I bought it. So, there are some great tips here and some not so valid, regardless of what the article said.
